"After Dark" Peppermint Willow
(Agonis flexuosa "After Dark") is a West Australian myrtle cultivar notable for its weeping habit and unusual dark red foliage, which may appear almost black. "After Dark" is a small evergreen tree that grows to a height of up to 25 feet, with a spread of between 10 to 15 feet. The tree boasts an arching, weeping habit and narrow, tapered leaves. Leaves emerge bright red before maturing to a dark wine burgundy. When crushed, leaves have a distinct peppermint aroma. As the tree ages, its habit often opens up, becoming more sparse. The tree blooms from spring until summer with small white blooms dotted with dark red centers. Though tolerant of light shade, "After Dark" will produce its best growth in a bright, sunny location.
